Choosing a School
Improving a School
Here are groups of parents who might want to choose or improve schools together:
- Parents of preschoolers: your child's playgroup parents, preschool parents, child
care parents or neighborhood parents (Choosing a School)
- Parents of children in the same elementary class where there's a common problem (Improving a School)
- Parents of children with similar particular needs, such as similar learning disabilities,
extreme academic challenges or developmental delays, very high academic capability, or
"typical" in-the-middle children who may be falling through the cracks
(Choosing a School; Improving a School)
- Friends (Choosing a School; Improving a School). Have a guilt-free party to start
choosing and improving your children's schools!
- Parent-teacher associations or other parent groups at a school
- Parents helping school staff make school improvements (Improving a School)
- Parents of children aging out of a school but still in the elementary years (Choosing a School)
- Parents with children moving on to middle school
(Choosing a School)
- Community support groups — all parents share an interest in finding high quality schools
that fit each child and family. Community support groups can help parents choose and improve schools
by educating parents about the seven Great School Quality Factors and four Fit Factors, by
leading structured work sessions to walk through the six major steps for choosing and working
with schools, and by offering well-organized information about available schools.
